WE DID IT! Apple Automotives partially sponsored '97 Outback has completed the Mexican 1000. Over 100 cars and 44 motorcycles started, 64 cars finished without a DNF, we were one of them! One Australian competitor told me he had driven the East Africa Safari Rally which was supposed to be the toughest rally in the world. Half way through the M1K he confessed the African rally was a piece of cake compared to the Mexican 1000! Almost every vehicle had some sort of breakdown. We ruined two sets of struts but kept replacing them. The drive train worked flawless. The Outback really shined in deep sand and silt. With all-wheel drive it plowed through it like a tractor. When the road smoothed out some and the struts were not bent, Paul was able to pass other cars (one of them at 80 mph!). The picture on the right is our car at the finish line in Cabo San Lucas. There were 3 cars in the Rally category. We came in 3rd in the rally category but we were the only car in the RSM class (Rally Sport Medium) which means we got a first place trophy!  Until we came along, there has not been a Subaru in this event since 1972!  More pictures and stories.
